Day in Caen - all of us

preview-image

The day after Christmas we all went to spend the afternoon in Caen. Although Caen was heavily bombed by the Allies in '44, plenty of beautiful buildings remained. For example, William the Conqueror's Saint Etienne, shown in the first couple photos of this post.

This church (most of it) dates from around 1070. Not a misprint there, folks. That makes it a thousand years old.

Kinda strange to be riding in a ferris wheel near to it.

But then again, you get used to the "age" of places living in France. They meld with the new somehow. It's like different people gathered to together, each one different from the other, but all still very much French. :-)

And Caen is a VERY alive town culturally. Cafes, restaurants, museums, theatres, and whatnot. Always fun.

Today, we went mostly (?) for the ferris wheel, that they set up every Christmas time. We all LOVE ferris wheels in this family.

Then to a Christmas outdoor market, where we found some fantastic "saucisses" - with herb, pepper, and another simple one. We bought a bit of all three. Mankin and Maxime and I were loving it; the man gives you little slices when you come up to the stand. Impossible to say "no".

We had hot chocolates, and warm wine, and Gabriel had his favourite: a baguette with ham. We had crepes after, some with simple sugar inside, and some of us with marmalade. They are made in front of you at one of the stands in the outdoor market.

:-)

Later, we had a tea, to warm ourselves up. And then we even went to a movie altogether!

A beautiful day.
