How to eat a Panetoni

This has to be our favorite cake of all. And we like cakes. No, maybe pecan pie is first for me and Natalya (and Grandpere!), but for the boys, and taking the whole family into account as one unit, if you will, then it is without question: PANETONI !!

It is so light a cake, and so delicious, I defy anyone to eat just one piece. It is impossible. I have tried it many times.

Natalya says always after we have had part of it after some dinner: please put it away, please hide it, do anything with it, but do not leave it out.

It is that good.

There is, of course, the powdered sugar. This helps. It would not be a Panetoni without it. In fact, it would be a rather plain cake sans sucre.

Gabriel and Maxime take the sugar component to new heights of derangement. They pile it on, and I have to literally confiscate the powdered sugar container from them, as they have no concept of rationality when it comes to this procedure. They take leave of their senses.

But, to confess, there is a part of me that understands their point of view utterly and completely.
