The other church we go to is Saint Serge just on the outskirts of Caen, the big city closest to us.
The church was founded, 1926, during the large exodus of Russians from Russia, as they fled the communist revolution. Back then, this was what you could call a working class church, attended primarily by metal workers, as there was a foundry near the Caen docks at that time.
Maxime always serves at the little church, and he serves sometimes here, too. When Maxime serves, Gabriel is very proud to be able to stand next to him when it is time to keep the wine chalices filled for those who have just taken communion. While this is Maxime's responsibility, of course, Gabriel nonetheless seems to feel some sort of vicarious grownup-ness by simply standing close to his brother.
